Skin Hunger.

Isn’t that a strange phase?

When I saw it, immediate resonance.

It’s also called Touch Deprivation. Ah! That’s what is. I’m wildly truncating the science here, but apparently, like food hunger, we don’t notice we’re skin hungry until we haven’t had whatever amount of touch that satiates us.

Socially distant. Isolated. Touch deprived. Well. Except for dogs.

Who else needs a hug?

Even introverts (portrait #98).

Painted on July 14, 2020.

This portrait is from the series, 100 Portraits in 100 Days: A Quarantine Diary.

What began as a creative challenge to focus my energies during the first weeks of solo quarantine in March 2020, evolved into a diary of my experience.

These small, original portraits are painted on top pages cut and upcycled from my sketchbooks.
