I just watched the hard-to-watch Vice episode, The Last Responders.
Set in NYC, about the chaos and stress endured by those who work in funeral homes during the pandemic.
Bodies stacked in parking lots full of refrigerated trucks, mass graves. Unprecedented paperwork without new policies.
Funeral directors are heroes, too.
My heart feels heavy for what they are seeing and facing.
Painted on July 8, 2020.
This portrait is from the series, 100 Portraits in 100 Days: A Quarantine Diary by Lisa Sonora.
What began as a creative challenge to focus my energies during the first weeks of solo quarantine in March 2020, evolved into a diary of my experience.
These small, original portraits are painted on top pages cut and upcycled from my sketchbooks.
