I’m calling this one, Conquer — because you can see the word conquer, along with “outline for new book” and “self-care extravaganza” from my original 2009 sketchbook page that its painted on top of.
Blind contour drawing is when you draw without looking at the page, keeping your eyes on the object being drawn, and not lifting your pen. This one’s a self-portrait that I made llive, on Instagram.
My goal was to create a portrait without any thinking whatsoever and just get it done.
Nothing like the pressure of live video to keep focused and get the work done!
Because it’s only day four of this project and already I wanted to get out of painting a portrait today.
Which is why it happened at night.
These small, original portraits are painted on top pages cut and upcycled from my sketchbooks.
This portrait is from the series, 100 Portraits in 100 Days: A Quarantine Diary.
What began as a creative challenge to focus my energies during the first weeks of solo quarantine in March 2020, evolved into a diary of my experience.
