When Italy started lockdown, I’d just arrived in Miami from Mexico. Anticipating botanical garden club sketching followed by a trip over to the Standard Hotel rooftop deck in South Beach where they serve a kind of grownup Slushie:
Frozen Rosè Wine.
Well, that got canceled.
I still haven’t had a Frozè.
But now that I’m writing this, what exactly is stopping me from getting a bottle of Rosè and sticking it in the freezer? Would that even work?
No. I’m not going to look on Pinterest for Frozè recipes or look to see if there is a magical Frozè Maker on Amazon. Or if an at home Slushie machine would work for wine. I won’t. I won’t. I won’t.
Apologies to 7-11 for using your trademarked Slushie name. I don’t know what else to call that kind of beverage.
These small, original portraits are painted on top pages cut and upcycled from my sketchbooks.
This portrait is from the series, 100 Portraits in 100 Days: A Quarantine Diary.
What began as a creative challenge to focus my energies during the first weeks of solo quarantine in March 2020, evolved into a diary of my experience.
