Props to Rumi for the title — a fav line from a fav poem.

This one reminds me of Basquiat himself, calling to me from the otherworld, saying, “Hey chica, whatever you do, or don’t do, it’s cool. No one really knows anything about art, and those who think they do are just pretending.”

Today I noticed the paintings that I left drying outside in the sun, covered with dusty gray paw prints of my dog Katy.

I’m messy in my painting studio. Well, everywhere. But let’s stick to the studio.

Which reminded me of an art critic writing about Basquit’s genius, including the fact that he often left footprints from his shoes on his canvases. As if that were intentional and meant something profound.

My impression reading that was: maybe he was just high, didn’t notice and didn’t care?

These small, original portraits are painted on top pages cut and upcycled from my sketchbooks.

This portrait is from the series, 100 Portraits in 100 Days: A Quarantine Diary.

What began as a creative challenge to focus my energies during the first weeks of solo quarantine in March 2020, evolved into a diary of my experience.
