A big part of what we do in the Creative + Practice online workshop, is learn how to pay fierce attention to what we love, what we desire, what we appreciate.
My shorthand word for this is: happification.
In the act of noticing we amplify what makes us happy.
This simple act of noticing helps us determine what is important to us. It helps us choose what we want to create next. What we want to enjoy more of.

How Do You Know If You’re An Artist?
Whatever society we live in, at whatever time, the words art and artist will be interpreted based on a lot of other people’s ideas and opinions and cultural biases.
Pretty much every artist I know struggles with their professional identity: Am I an artist? Like, a real artist. What makes a real artist? Do I qualify? Can I dare call myself an artist?
This image from Henry Miller’s Paris Notebooks is what is fueling my creative focus lately.
Created during the years 1932-1936, he documented everything he was working on: drawings, paintings, typed notes, ideas and resource material. Three volumes in total.
Makes me want to get out my watercolors – not my normal media for working in my sketchbooks. I have a travel set of watercolors in my Mexico apartment, so I just picked up another set.
Meanwhile, I’m switching things up a bit to paint first thing in the morning instead of write. I’ve been on the computer so much with the editing of Sketchbooks, that getting my hands in paint is what my body, heart, and mind are craving. Read more…
