MOMENTUM: The Working Vacation Where You Get Your Creative Work DONE

by Lisa Sonora

MOMENTUM is the working vacation where you get your creative work done. A whole week away to finally start (or finish!) a daunting creative project. Structure, support and productivity methods that actually work for creatives are built in to the program.

How To Get Your Creative Work Done

Jet away from your daily life and go on a working vacation designed to help you do your creative work with focus, ease and clarity.

The MOMENTUM: Get Your Creative Work Done Working Vacation gives you a whole week away to focus on a creative project so that you can get build momentum and get your creative work done.

All you need to do is show up. The lodging, meals, space, structure, and schedule are designed with creative best practices that support you to get your creative work done.

Also: someone else is doing all of the cooking and cleaning. That alone is a luxury that helps tremendously. But you already know that.

Work in your own space, or in one of the community spaces… or at a cafe.

Get More Done on a Working Vacation

Everyone has some big looming creative project that keeps getting pushed to the back burner. You know: that project that you just can’t seem to start. Or maybe you keep starting but just never finish.

One of the most effective ways to get creative work done is to block out a dedicated time and place to do it.

That sounds simple, and it is. But it’s not so easy.

When left to our own devices, endless distractions compel us to procrastinate and it’s just too easy to lose focus.

Paint in the studio – launch a creative project at the MOMENTUM working vacation

Who is the MOMENTUM Working Vacation for?

MOMENTUM is for anyone who wants the time and space to focus on a creative project. It doesn’t matter whether you want to start a new project, make progress on something you’re already working on, or bring an existing project to completion.

You’ll be supported to focus, concentrate and gain momentum on your creative project. The experience is limited to 5 people, plus your facilitator and coach, Lisa Sonora.

When and Where does MOMENTUM happen?

During 2019, there are two dates available in Mexico, at Art House Oaxaca in Oaxaca City. Please scroll down to registration info for dates.

What will you accomplish at MOMENTUM?
You’ll focus on a creative project of your own choosing, and get your creative work DONE.

During the MOMENTUM working vacation, you’ll also experience:

  • Support! You’re not doing this alone.
  • 1:1 coaching through the tough spots while you’re here, as you desire.
  • Productivity methods that actually work for creatives and creative projects
  • How to take a big, overwhelming idea and break it down into manageable, doable tasks, that you can happily complete and check off your to-do list
  • How to-do lists fail creative projects and what to do instead
  • How to manage your time, mood and energy levels (at the workshop and after) so that you can keep getting your creative work done
  • How to use Effortless Creating methods to cut through procrastination and resistance so that you can start, follow-through and finish your creative project
  • You’ll also get worksheets of the MOMENTUM methods to take home so you can do this on your own

What we’ll be doing at MOMENTUM:

Each of us will be working on a creative project of our own.

This project can be decided in advance during your 1:1 coaching session via phone, included in your registration.

Together we’ll brainstorm, prioritize, and choose a project for the week. And it’s OK if your project changes once you get here!

The Schedule

Following is what our daily agenda looks like.

Note: You are not required to participate in any or all of the structured activities. If you find yourself on a creative roll and just want to work in your room and have your meals delivered to your door, then heck YES to all that.

This working vacation is for you to enjoy as you wish. Me and my staff (housekeeping, cooking, barista) are here to support you in getting your creative work done.

Whether or not you’re a photographer, taking photos is a great way to access your creative vision.

Sample Day at MOMENTUM (do any or all, as you see fit)

  • Wake up early or sleep in a bit. Spend the week in your pajamas if you like. The workshop, lodging and meals all happen in one space. No commuting required.
  • 8:30 am But first… COFFEE (or beverage of choice)
The espresso bar is open. Enjoy a nicely pulled shot of freshly roasted and ground coffee, grown right here in the mountains of Oaxaca. Steamed plant-based milks are available for the dairy-free. Whee!

Must try: My kinda famous Vegan Hot Chocolate, with cacao roasted right down the street. (We can make a field trip over to the roaster if you like.)

Each day we’ll also serve freshly made green juice, and agua frescas. A selection of herbal and caffeinated tea and endless filtered water are available all day. Hydration and clean eating is key to a happy creative brain, after all!

  • 9-10 am Working Breakfast. We’ll wake up on the page with some quick journaling designed so you can set your focus for the day. I’ll help you break down your project into daily goals and then small, doable pieces, so you’ll know exactly what you’ll be working on until lunch.
  • 10-1 pm Your Most Productive Creative Work Session, Ever. Each of us will get to work on our own projects, privately. Work in your own room, one of the common areas on site, or out in a cafe or somewhere else in town.
  • 1:1 coaching sessions available as you need
  • 1-2 pm Lunch. It’s fortification time! Plant-based lunches with a bounty of beautiful local produce, created and served on site. Gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian and vegan options are always available.
  • 2-5 pm. Your Second Most Productive Work Session of the Day, Ever. Afternoon is normally slump time. Not here. Our afternoon session is broken up into six half-hour mini-sessions to use as you wish.
Continue your morning project, nap, go analog, go for a walk, lie around in a hammock, read, research. You’ll learn the art of Productive Procrastination (and what procrastination is really about and why we do it) and how to do 30 Minute Creative Work Sprints. I’ll provide the structure – you bring your willingness to get your creative work done.
  • 5-6pm Regroup Accountability Session
Accountability is one of the #1 tools anyone can use to stay on track with creative projects.
You’ll get to practice accountability all week. How to stay accountable yourself, and see how other creatives stay accountable. We’ll each share how our work went, including Brags (what worked well) and Challenges (what didn’t go well and how to fix it).
  • 6 pm The first and last night we’ll have dinner together starting at 6.
Other nights, dinner is on your own or with others. You can decide in the moment how much or little evening social time suits you. You can always get take out or raid the refrigerator and eat in your room. There are wonderful dining options just around the corner. Oaxaca is a foodie town and a lovely place to explore. We are located next to two large parks and a block from the pedestrian-only shopping area in Oaxaca’s Historic Center. On the menu: Oaxaca Street Food (tacos, hamburgers, corn on a stick and ice cream carts) or a dining experience at the famed Casa Oaxaca El Restaurante rooftop and hundreds of other options in between.
  • 9pm Quiet time. Wind down with some herbal tea or glass of wine, if that is your pleasure, and get ready for an early lights out. Rest, read, rejuvenate. Early evenings are your time to sleep deep and dream big in your own private room—with a king size bed and en-suite bathroom. Your room also has whatever surfaces you might need: easel, desk, chairs, stool. Wifi throughout the property.
  • The next day: If you’re an early riser like me (who wakes with the birds), I’ll show you my favorite dog-walking, running, walking park right next door, where you can take a stroll or lace up your trainers and do some laps with the locals. Once the sun is up, enjoy a stroll around the city and take photos. A great way to ramp up your creative energies for the day. Optional creativity boosting prompts are yours for the taking whenever you like. There are some lovely juice stands and coffee shops (with croissants) open early, if you want a little nosh before breakfast.
