I never was a fan of Valentine’s Day.
But I am a big fan of heart-shaped milagros (milagro means miracle in Spanish).
It turns out that Valentine’s Day here in Mexico means that all of my favorite markets are well-stocked with a new supply of these hearts.
So I’m restocking my supply. I had sold or given my whole collection away last summer when I packed up my art collection in San Francisco and finished my BigAss Move to Mexico.
I’ll be using these in a large mixed media mural this weekend. I’m especially fond of milagros with the birds mixed in.
For me, they symbolize Peace, Love, and Flying.
All the roads we travel for a kiss. (Props to Pablo Neruda, whose poem I am thinking of right now and need to go look up…it’s going in the same mural.)
More on all that later.
I’ll also tell you my “word of the year” – which I finally surrendered to after much resistance.
