Keeping a creative sketchbook is a way of paying fierce attention to our lives.
When we focus on what we love and want to experience more of,
new channels of possibility open up.
More of what we dream of is available to us.
This is the beauty and benefit of tapping into our imagination and intuition.
When we use our creativity this way, it is as if we are unlocking whole new ways of problem solving and wayfinding.
This is the magic of keeping a journal for process.
There is a Chinese proverb that says:
“Keep a green tree in your heart and perhaps a singing bird will come.”
Keeping a creative sketchbook is one way we can do this —
We have this beautiful container of blank pages, inscribed with our most private and cherished desires.
These blank pages are where we practice paying attention, listening inwardly, and tapping into a greater intelligence.
When we are unattached to outcomes,
our intuitive capacities open more and more,
making the road to our heart’s desires clearer.
What a beautiful journey we have the privilege of enjoying.
Love is here
Love is there
Love is everywhere
Within.
This is a message that poured forth on that journal page pictured above.
There of course is a longer story that goes with it. For now, I just want to leave you with this.
Love is imminent.
Keep journaling, keep exploring, keep finding ways to pay attention to what you love.
If you’d like to journey further with me, I’d love to guide you. Join me in an upcoming workshop.
We will nourish the green tree within our hearts.

It’s done… 30 days of finding ways to be free, of discovering new ways to express, of playing in paint (kind of like playing the the mud in days long gone), and of being in gratitude for this wonderful opportunity. Blessings to you Lisa for this work. I did wonder, how many were we?
Thank you Lisa for your gift to me. My daughter that has a brain injury has seen the
the peace and joy you have brought to me and has started in her own way the path
of healing through creative journaling.
Judy thank you for the quote above. Here is one if my favorites:
Birds sing after a storm; why shouldn’t people feel as free to delight in whatever sunlight remains to them?

Thank you for this inspiring experience! I looked forward to journaling every day. As a new mom, it was a way to spend some time with myself thinking about things I don’t normally have time for anymore. My favorite part was making art! I am a writer and have meticulously kept journals for as long as I can remember, but making art each day was totally new for me.
Thank you Lisa for offering this journal project! You really inspired me to reconnect with words and colors and a way of expressing what is inside of me that had been ‘away’ for quite some time. Thanks again!
Lisa, the original is
“Keep your bough green and the singing bird
WILL come.” No perhaps about it.
My aunt gave me versions of that in print and picture
which have lived with me most all my life.
It’s wonderful to see it being used still, 70 years later!
what you wrote here is so beautiful Lisa. THank you for being who you are and for the 30 day root journaling process.

I want to thank you once again Lisa. What a wonderful wild ride this has been….and I have definitely broken away from the ‘what I did today ‘ bog I was in!
