“May what I do flow from me like a river, no forcing and no holding back, the way it is with children.”
― Rainer Maria Rilke
Today’s inspiration for our FLOW: 30 Day Journal Project comes from one of my favorite poems by one of my favorite poets, Rainer Maria Rilke.
This poem reads like a prayer, a love note to God, or the Universe (whatever you may call that creative force or power larger than us).
Here is the entire poem, I believe in all that has never yet been spoken, then our journaling prompts.
I believe in all that has never yet been spoken
I want to free what waits within me
so that what no one has dared to wish for
may for once spring clear
without my contriving.
If this is arrogant, God, forgive me,
but this is what I need to say.
May what I do flow from me like a river,
no forcing and no holding back,
the way it is with children.
Then in these swelling and ebbing currents,
these deepening tides moving out, returning,
I will sing you as no one ever has,
Streaming through widening channels
into the open sea.
– Ranier Maria Rilke
Today’s Journal Prompts:
The first memory I have creating is…
My favorite art supplies to use as a kid:
My favorite creative activity as a child was…
I could (fill in the blank) for hours, and felt so…
and this reminds me that…
The child artist in me knows…
Try this: Make a journal page using your favorite childhood art supplies.
What if you could get unstuck (and also stop pushing yourself so hard) with a simple metaphor change?
This is just what Yogini and Life Coach Lianne Raymond proposes in her article, Becalmed instead of stuck; drawn instead of driven.
Lianne writes, “There is power in the words we use – the way we talk can bring us
freedom and open us up, or it can close us down.”
Becalmed is a sailing term, and fits so nicely with our FLOW theme.
The 7 Creative Powers is all about breaking through resistance and understanding the places we get stuck. For those who have already taken Dreaming on Paper or Creative + Practice.
In Case you’re just popping in today for the 30 Day Journal Project:
Facing the blank page can be intimidating. So you’ll find help you get started.
I also made printables of ALL 30 days of prompts… (this is how I’m making my journal this year)
Last year when I offered the first 30 Day Journal Project, I found that having the prompts printed out in advance helped me get right into my journaling for the day.
So I made you nice versions of the very same layouts I’m using for my own journaling.
After I made these for myself, I prettied up the design so you could use them, too — and not just in a 3-ring binder.
There is another layout for cutting and pasting into an existing journal. I’ll share photos or a video of these at some point this month.
Get ALL 30 days of prompts & quotes (plus one bonus day) with 2 different layout designs.

This post is part of the 30 Day Journal Project.
Our theme for this year is: FLOW.
Every day for 30 days, a brand new set of journaling prompts is posted right here.
Creative journaling is my number one tool as an artist and creative entrepreneur.
I designed this project to help you discover the magic that happens when you journal for 30 days.
30 days of prompts and ideas to inspire, motivate, and en-Courage you, with creative community to support you. That’s my intention.
