Signs my Spanish is improving:
When the pilot on my Volaris flight from Oaxaca to Tijuana gave typically muddled intercom announcement to the passengers, I was able to pick up that there was something quite beautiful visible from the right side of the plane, even with all of the heavy cloud cover, etc.
I was seated on the left, and got up to take a look.
When I saw the volcano, I went back to my seat and grabbed my iPhone, and got a couple of quick snaps before we soared out of view.
Popocatepetl Volcano is located in the state of Puebla, Mexico, which borders Oaxaca state. So far there have not been any evacuations of the villages near the mountain, and travel to the city of Puebla is safe.
