“You must set forth and find the center of your interest. You are a creator, but you must find your interest and then dedicate yourself to that interest—not to the act of creativity. Merely to want to create will make it impossible for you to do so. You must find an interest greater than yourself—a love, perhaps—and then the power to create will set you on fire.”
― Pearl S. Buck
Have you ever thought of the higher purpose behind journaling or daily writing?
For me, journaling and daily writing are terms I use interchangeably. For others, there is a big distinction between keeping a journal and doing daily writing.
For each person the higher purpose behind the writing will be different.
My higher purpose behind the daily writing is to find my center of interest. I like using my creativity in service of this search. It feels aligned. It’s where my power to create is sparked.
Using my creative muscles every day also gives me a sense of equilibrium. So you could say mental health and happiness and is another higher purpose behind all of this.
Today you can use the journal prompts not only to explore your own center of interest, but also to think about your own higher purpose in the daily (or at least regular) writing.
What is journaling teaching you?
Where is your writing taking you?
What is your higher purpose in keeping a journal?
Exploring these ideas through your writing and creativity will naturally lead you to discover you higher purpose in other important areas of your life.
Have you considered your higher purpose lately?
