“When you do things from your soul, you feel a river moving in you, a joy.”
Today’s Journal Prompts:
I feel joy when…
Things that move my soul…
The river moving in me is…
Trusting the river of joy
This whole journaling project is a direct result of following my joy. It started with a simple idea in my journal last year. I said YES to the idea and figured out how to make the project work as I went.
Not knowing how to do things is one of the things that stops so many from even attempting to create.
Not having confidence to listen to these inklings when they arise is literally a killjoy. I can write about this because I used to experience it so much myself.
What moves my soul is making creativity a priority in my life. The easiest and simplest way I’ve found to take regular creative action is to keep sketchbooks, made up of writing, painting, collage, and photography.
This is all kept private. And once in a while, something emerges that I can share: sketches for paintings, rough drafts of books and projects like this.
Keeping a creative sketchbook is like having a big, colorful compost pile that fits neatly on your bookshelf.
Inside, are all the elements you need to nurture the seeds of your creative ideas
- Solid Ground – a regular place and way to do your creative practice
- Creative Flow – the theme of this journaling project – we’re just on day 2, so keep coming back if you want more flow)
- Air & Sunlight – I think of “airing our ideas” in the warmth and support of a creative community like this like oxygen and sun – necessary for the creative (and our human) life force
The best part of trusting where this river of joy takes me are the connections with kindreds made along the way.
For most of my life I created in isolation. Gathering with other artists to create and share has created soul bonds with people that endure through time and space.
I’m still connected with some of my artist friends from thirty years ago, even though we have lived in different countries for decades.
So my higher purpose with the 30 Day Journal Project is to gather the creative tribes.
Yes – we’ll all create on our own. But my hope is that you’ll find this to be a gathering spot to find support and connection.
The Internet makes this all so much quicker and easier.
Thanks for stopping by today!
Make your journaling easier:
Last year when I offered the first 30 Day Journal Project, I found that having the prompts printed out in advance helped me get right into my journaling for the day.
So I made you nice versions of the very same layouts I’m using for my own journaling.
Get ALL 30 days of prompts & quotes (plus one bonus day) with 2 different layout designs.

This post is part of the 30 Day Journal Project.
Our theme for this year is: FLOW.
Every day for 30 days, a brand new set of journaling prompts is posted right here.
Creative journaling is my number one tool as an artist and creative entrepreneur.
I designed this project to help you discover the magic that happens when you journal for 30 days.
30 days of prompts and ideas to inspire, motivate, and en-Courage you, with creative community to support you. That’s my intention.
The 7 Creative Powers is all about breaking through resistance and understanding the places we get stuck. For those who have already taken Dreaming on Paper or Creative + Practice.
