“Flow with whatever may happen and let your mind be free. Stay centered by accepting whatever you are doing. This is the ultimate.”
― Chuang Tzu
The concept for this FLOW: 30 Day Journal Project was planned over a year ago, while I was working on the ROOT: 30 Day Journal Project that happened in January, 2014. So all year, I was thinking about the FLOW that would follow rooting and building foundations in solid ground.
All of the quotes and prompts for FLOW were completed months ahead of time. So it is especially mysterious to me how the quote of the day that inspires our journaling is just the perfect thing I need to remember and reflect on.
I’ve been hearing this from others participating. That somehow I am reading minds and publishing just what is needed to journal about that day.
Nope. I’m not reading minds.
The best way I can explain all of this is to say that this is the pure magic of it all. Magic, mystery, synchronicities…this is what happens when we take the small, simple action of showing up at our journals.
Yes, you are looking at a giant, wall-sized hole. This is what the demolition in progress looked like in my new studio / gallery / workshop space in Mexico.
Doing a project like this anywhere, let alone in a foreign land, on a bootsrapped budget…is putting all of my ability to stay centered and go with the flow to the test. We are over budget and over time by some significant multipliers.
But I feel strangely OK with it all. Meaning: I really feel like I am in the flow, and not bucking the current. It doesn’t feel like a struggle. A very new experience for me.
The gathering space of my dreams is happening. Not in the timing I would like, but I keep imagining you and my friends and family gathering around a large table and journaling with me. Taking painting, writing, craft and photography workshops in my favorite place in the world.
The part of this quote that stands out for me right this minute is:
by accepting whatever
That just makes me smile.
Overall, I simply feel grateful that I get to create such a 3-D version of my dream. By that I mean, a place where you can come and experience magic in real time and place.
If you didn’t catch my update, I’ve shared more about the project, including the first painting workshop booked for August, and some other reasons why FLOW is ever so pertinent right now.
Today’s Journal Prompts:
What stops my creative flow is…
I get stuck when…
I have trouble accepting…
If I centered myself and accepted it, then…
Janet Hince, of Heart to Harp, started blogging about her own creative practice after she started learning to play the harp in her early 50’s. Janet has joined in previous 30 Day Journal Projects, and says:
I’ve kept a journal since the early 1970’s, but only recently began using journal prompts as part of Lisa Sonora’s Creative+Practice online class.
Writing in response to a journal prompt opened up new information and understanding about my creative blocks and emotional patterns, especially around music and performance anxiety.
She shares about own creative process in The Gift Comes From the Doing and in other beautifully written pieces on her blog.
Make your journaling even easier:
Last year when I offered the first 30 Day Journal Project, I found that having the prompts printed out in advance helped me get right into my journaling for the day.
So I made you nice versions of the very same layouts I’m using for my own journaling.
After I made these for myself, I prettied up the design so you could use them, too.
