Artist Retreats & Residencies in Mexico

In 1995, I spied a piece of folk art hidden away on a dusty shelf in the back room of a souvenir shop in Cozumel, Mexico. The art was signed with the artist’s name, and also the name of the village near Oaxaca City, Mexico, where it was made.

In that moment, I made two decisions: to buy the art, and then get to the village where it was made. That’s how I ended up first visiting Oaxaca in 2000, and then making it my home after many visits and extended stays.

Oaxaca is ideal for artists in so many ways. I’ve created the space I always wished existed when I was visiting here.

Art House Oaxaca

Art House Oaxaca is located in right in the historic center, within a few minutes walks to all of the sights. You’ll find a safe and comfortable place to live and create, with a secret gardens behind a tall wall, and shared gathering and studio spaces.

There are five rooms for rent, each with their own private entrance and bathroom. Rooms have a king-size bed that can be changed into two individual beds for roommates. Minimum booking is 6 nights, with discounts for longer stays of several weeks or months.

We have ample workshop space here and at our cafe and gallery, for visiting teachers who want to teach workshops or bring their groups for cultural tours. Accommodations host 10 people, double occupancy.

It is my great love to share the art, food and culture of Oaxaca with friends and visitors from around the world.

I am very interested in your day if the dead week in 2017. Is it possible to extend my stay by three or for days past the workshop? If so what would be the cost of lodging?
    Thank you
P.s. I was in Oaxaca in December and fell in love with the place
